INTERESTED IN JOINING THE SOCIAL COGNITION AND PRIMATE BEHAVIOR LAB AT EMORY?

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

*I am on leave from June 2025-August 2026 and will not be able to accept any new undergraduate research assistants in my lab. Please reach out again in Summer 2026 to discuss opportunities for the Fall 2026.*

I'm still interested what can I do this year?
I encourage all perspective Emory students to take classes in primate behavior and/or animal behavior. This includes ANT 302 Primate Behavior & Ecology , PSYC 325 Primate Social Psychology, ANT 455W Current Issues in Primatology, or equivalent.

I want to know more about the lab
If you are an undergraduate student who is looking for research experience, the SoCaP lab may be a good fit if you are interested in learning about endocrinology, primate cognition, and animal behavior. There are several ways to get involved in SoCaP lab and in your first few year you will be involved in coding behavior, wrangling data, and working in the wet lab. A few qualified students considering pursuing an honors thesis will get to conduct behavior and cognitive studies with the captive capuchins and in the wild in Costa Rica (funding not guaranteed). Students must be highly responsible, reliable, motivated, and dedicated to conducting high quality collaborative work. Good attention to detail, flexible schedules, and the ability to carefully follow directions (e.g. protocols for data collection) are also important.
GRADUATE STUDENTS
I am always looking for exceptional graduate students interested in primate behavior and cognition to join the SoCaP Lab. However, please note that just because I may be interested in taking students, does not mean that I will be able to do so. There are several factors that come into play when it comes to whether or not I can take a student or two in any given year. This means that several times even the most exceptional students are declined due to a variety of factors outside of their (and my) control.
